Thought Provocation

What gets you thinking?
What are you thinking?
Here are some things to think about…

DO YOU MAKE ROOM TO THINK OF GOD?

Psalms 10:4 “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”

HE THINKS OF YOU
Psalms 139:2 “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar”

YOU KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS………HE KNOWS YOUR THOUGHTS………BUT ONLY HE KNOWS HIS OWN
1 Corinthians 2:11 “For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”

HIS THOUGHTS ARE PRETTY MUCH INACCESSIBLY UNATTAINABLE
Isaiah 55:9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

BUT THEN HE JUST GOES AHEAD AND LETS YOU IN
Psalms 139:17 “How precious to me are your thoughts, God!”

Descatres said the famous line “I think therefore I am”. WOW anyone spot the obvious there?
McKloskey just messed with our heads when he said “I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant”
Oscar Wilde quipped that “a man who does not think for himself does not think at all”.

That sounds reasonable.

What do you think?

Our local council here for Whitianga and the Coromandel Peninsula want us to start thinking about what we want for Whitianga and its future. What will, what can, or what should Whitianga look like in 10 or 20 years?

To be honest I don’t really think about it. To be brutally honest I probably don’t care. But I should. Shouldn’t I?

But here’s the thing:
In any one day, I get up, I help sort the kids, make beds, help clean around the house, go to work (I don’t just Pastor), meet with clients, go home, hang with my kids, dinner, dishes, sit for a second, try and have some sort of dialogue with my beautiful wife Helen, sleep.

No time to think. No time to think about what God is doing in my day or what He wants me to do in my day.

“But you’re a Pastor you have too”.
You would think so wouldn’t you. But I can sell coal to Newcastle. Snow to Eskimos. Oil to Arabs……you get the picture.

I think I have a little bit of the gift of the gab so I could actually bluff my way every Sunday and get thru it all on my strength.

But for how long?

I have sermons to put together, church folk to talk to, leaders to meet with, blogs to write, plans to construct, a new church to build, sick to pray for, decisions about this, decisions about that and don’t get me started about our music teams dramas. (joking guys – I love you all)
How do I get it all done? I get it all done because I know where my power comes from and it ain’t from me. And contrary to popular belief it’s not ALL from my wife. God is my strength.
I don’t choose to get up early each morning, sometimes woken up by Him, at 5am because I HAVE TO.

I get up early because I WANT to. I get up early because I CHOOSE to. I get up, I take time out, I chat away to Him throughout my day because I LOVE to.

Do I get tired – yip
Do I get sick of it and find it a chore sometimes – like totally!
Do I argue with God in my head, justifying that I deserve a sleep in – yessiree
Do I miss it when I don’t hang with him? Absolutely.

You tell me what is BETTER than hanging with the creator of all things, the lover of my soul, the Father that sent his ONE and ONLY son Jesusto die so mercilessly and cruelly for OUR sins – not His sins but ours. This truly amazing God that offers usunconditional LOVE, eternal LIFE, healing from our past, our shame and failures.

There’s nothing that he hasn’t forgiven for. He’s seen it all. Oh and BTW, he knows what you’ve done so don’t hide it coz he loves you anyway.

I encourage you to do the same.
Not because I say so, or the Bible says so, or your Pastor says you should.
But because you WANT to.

Isn’t that worth thinking about?

If you think I’m right then stop thinking.

And now do.
