I’ve been doing manly stuff around the house today. You know washing, cleaning windows, vacuuming, dishes stuff, while folding the washing I watched a bit of The Worlds Fastest Indian.
Burt Munro from Invercargill had this tremendous desire to go to the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA and race his old Indian motorcycle. To go as fast as he could.
He had a passion, a dream and a desire.
It took 25 years to fulfill it.
He had what Pastor Steve Furtick from Elevation Church, would call audacious faith.
Did Burt have obstacles? You bet.
Did he have knockers telling him to stop or not to go? Sure did.
Did he have failure? More than a few times.
What was the thing that kept him going? That thing inside him urging him on.
Whatever it was, it was remarkable.
I’m no Burt Munro but there’s this thing inside me, a sort of urgency, that just wells up and makes me feel both troubled and excited.
Have you ever felt that?
The Holy Spirit just writhing inside you.
It’s fantastic, but disconcerting at the same time.
I felt it again just watching the movie.
As you will know, we are in the process of moving our church into Whitianga and there is so much to do.
But I have been blessed with some amazing men and women that are totally on board with getting it up and running. I have had Council meetings in Whitianga; meetings with planners, design work, leases to draw up, funds to raise, consultation with church members, not to mention a truck load of prayer.
As the momentum for the physical work to get the church up and running has been growing, so has the spiritual. Jesus said He will build the church and the gates of hell will not prevail. I know this urgency inside me is Christs Spirit, the Holy Spirit, encouraging me, moving me, desiring me to move forward faster.
He is building his church.
Whitianga has been a very hard battle ground for Christians. But God, our God, has promised us victory. In fact he has already won the battle.
1 John 4:4 says
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them,
because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Not can overcome them. Or may over come them. But have!
Burt Munro took 25 years to get to Bonneville with very little help from others.
Born in 1899, he was in his 60’s when raced.
He was doing 183mph (almost 300kmh) at 68 years of age!
He died at 78.
Burt had one Indian.
I am truly blessed to have an amazing bunch of Indians.
We too will win the race in Whitianga and the Coromandel.
Our team have audacious faith.
